STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *157 FOR ANSWER ON 28.11.2019
(a) & (b): Coir Board, a statutory body under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), is implementing the Mahila Coir Yojana (MCY) which is a component under the umbrella Scheme “Coir Vikas Yojana (CVY)” for development of coir industry in the major coconut producing states of the country. Mahila Coir Yojana is a women-oriented self employment scheme implemented by Coir Board for imparting training to women artisans on conversion of coir fibre into yarn. The amount of stipend given to the trainees is Rs.3000/- per month. During the year 2017-18, the scheme was approved for continuation from 2017-18 to 2019-20 with the following objectives:
• To provide training on sophisticated machinery/advanced technology in order to scale up the skill of the Mahila Coir Workers.
• To integrate MCY training along with LBI (Livelihood Business Incubation) in order to make the MCY trainees more entrepreneurial.
• To encourage the trained women to avail of assistance under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to set up coir units.
State/UT-wise details of training, including Tripura, provided under MCY is at Annexure-I.
(c): The details of financial allocation and beneficiaries trained under Mahila Coir Yojana during the last three years and current year are as follows:

(d) & (e): The objectives of the scheme have largely been achieved with training provided to 6474 women workers. Government is covering more and more women workers by developing new machinery and improving manufacturing processes for making these activities less strenuous.
