Sports Promotional Schemes for Youth

Sports Authority of India (SAI) has implemented the various Sports Promotional Schemes through its 273 sports centres located in various States of the country. These schemes cover the rural areas in the country including those in the state of Odisha. Presently 14236 talented sports persons including 8698 (residential trainees) are being trained in 27 sports disciplines. Further, 1178 sporting talents in Khelo India School Games, 2018 and 2437 sporting talents in Khelo India Youth Games, 2019 have been selected under Khelo India scheme for further training to excel in various National/ International competitions. ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of promotion of sports, including creation of sports infrastructure, rests with State/ Union Territory Governments. Central Government supplements the efforts of State/ Union Territory Governments by providing assistance to training facilities, coaching and financial support to sportspersons under various schemes such as Khelo India, schemes ran by Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres and Assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs).
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) provide funds to SAI for implementation of schemes for promotion of sports through training centres established by SAI. State and Union Territory (UT) wise funds are not provided to SAI. Information related to allocation of funds under various SAI sports promotional schemes is at Annexure-I. The locations of the SAI centres through which the SAI schemes are implemented is at Annexure-II. Further the funds are released to States/ UTs to bridge the gaps for development of sports infrastructure under Khelo India Scheme. The position of funds provided to various States under Khelo India Scheme during the last three years is at Annexure-III and the details of the projects sanctioned during last three years are at Annexure-IV.
Sports Promotional Schemes implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports cater to the entire population of the country including the tribal people.
