PM-KISAN Yojana, also known as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, is an initiative by the Government of India aimed at providing financial support to small and marginal farmers across the country. The scheme was launched on February 24, 2019, by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
The primary objective of PM-KISAN is to augment the income of farmers by providing them direct income support through financial assistance. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive a fixed income support of Rs. 6,000 per year in three equal instalments of Rs. 2,000 each. The amount is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

Eligibility of PM-KISAN Yojana:
Small and marginal farmers holding land up to two hectares are eligible to benefit from this scheme. The ownership of the land should be in the farmer’s name.
Direct Benefit Transfer under PM-KISAN Yojana:
The financial assistance is provided through direct benefit transfer (DBT) to ensure transparency and reduce leakages.
Installment Pattern of PM-KISAN Yojana:
The income support of Rs. 6,000 per year is distributed in three equal installments, typically in April, August, and December.
Online Registration of PM-KISAN Yojana:
Farmers can apply and register for the scheme through the official PM-KISAN portal or at the nearest Common Service Centres (CSCs).
Aadhaar Linkage in PM-KISAN Yojana:
To receive the benefits, it is mandatory for farmers to link their Aadhaar number to their bank account.
PM-KISAN Yojana has played a crucial role in providing financial stability to small and marginal farmers, especially during challenging times like natural disasters, crop failures, and economic uncertainties. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), a Central Sector Scheme, aims at providing financial assistance to cultivable landholding farmer families across the country, subject to certain exclusion criteria, to enable them to take care of expenses related to agriculture and allied activities as well as domestic needs. Under the Scheme, an amount of Rs. 6000/- is transferred annually in three equal installments of Rs.2000/- directly into the Aadhaar seeded bank accounts of the farmers.
Under the PM-KISAN Scheme, the responsibility to identify the beneficiaries and upload their correct and verified data on PM-KISAN portal lies with the respective State/UT Government. Thereafter, these data go through various levels of verification and validation including Aadhaar/PFMS/Income Tax database. Subsequent to such verification and validation, the benefit of the Scheme is passed on to eligible beneficiaries directly into their Aadhaar seeded bank accounts through DBT. Under the PM-KISAN Scheme, more than 2.42 lakh crores has been disbursed to more than 11 crore beneficiary farmer families through various installments.
The scheme is applicable only for landholding farmers. The number of farmers whose land details are seeded on the PM-KISAN Portal is more than 9.53 crore. The number of farmers registered under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana, State-wise is enclosed at Annexure I.
The number of farmers benefitted under PM-KISAN Yojana, State-wise is enclosed at Annexure II. At present, all the farmers whose land details have been provided and Bank accounts have been seeded with Aadhaar by the respective State/UT Government can receive the benefit under the scheme.
The number of farmers whose Know Your Customer (KYC) is pending under PM-KISAN Yojana, State-wise is enclosed at Annexure III.
